Beyond the duties of a PADI Divemaster, an Assistant Instructor (AI) can fulfill many important roles for a dive shop. This is an important step forward in your career with PADI IDC prep and dive instructor training.
At Sunshine Dive Charter all PADI AI courses are taught by our resident PADI Course Director, Peter Wilcox. Being taught directly by a CD in a group size that does not exceed 6 candidates ensures you of quality diving instructor training.
PADI Assistant Instructor Course
The PADI Assistant Instructor course builds on Dive Master training by further developing your leadership abilities by training you to instruct student divers in several programs. With Sunshine Dive Charter you will assist on Discover Scuba Diving programs that we run at several of the local luxury resorts. If you want a Scuba Instructor job in Mexico, this is a great start. We can arrange work permits and you will be prepared to work as a PADI professional in Mexico!
What can PADI Assistant Instructors do?
- Present knowledge development elaboration under indirect supervision.
- Present initial skills training under direct supervision.
- Conduct open water skill evaluations under indirect supervision.
- Teach and certify divers in the Peak Performance Buoyancy course.
- Independently conduct Discover Scuba Diving in a pool or confined water.
- Teach Project Aware and Coral Reef Conservation non-diving programs.
- Teach non-diving courses like Equipment Specialist after completing the Instructor level course.

PADI AI Course Fees
There are several fees to consider; PADI Assistant Instructor Course fee of $550 USD, PADI IDC Crew Pack of $500 USD and PADI AI application fee of $67 USD.
PADI IDC | Instructor Development Course Prep
If you plan to continue your diving instructor training with the PADI IDC – Instructor Development Course, after completing you PADI AI course with us, you will only need to complete the OWSI portion of the PADI IDC. We recommend completing the PADI eLearning Dive Theory as part of your PADI IDC prep, as the level of dive theory knowledge required for the PADI Instructor Exams and OWSI – Open Water Scuba Instructor is beyond that of the Dive Master and Assistant Instructor level.
